20 Feb 08 – During the third day of the Wellington Conference discussions centred on clearance of unexploded cluster munitions and assistance for victims. See: Wednesday’s Cluster Ban News. The NZ Cluster Munition Coalition stepped up its campaigning with a petition action in Civic Square at midday today. Campaigners and members of the public lay down and had a chalk outline made of their body that they then signed constituting a petition signature against cluster bombs. Day One – Wellington Conference

18 Feb 08 – The Wellington Conference on cluster munitions kicked off this morning with elegates from more than 120 countries and 137 civil society representatives in attendance. This meeting represents a critical crossroads in the Oslo Process, as the draft treaty text from this meeting will be the basis of negotiations in Dublin in May.

The global Cluster Munition Coalition including Oxfam NZ and Amnesty NZ issued media statements. Cluster bomb survivors Soraj Ghulab Habib and Branislav Kapetanovich spoke to the plenary together with Steve Goose of Human Rights Watch, CMC co-chair. The Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) issued a daily update on the conference.
