LebPhotoOn 5 November 2010, Lebanon deposited its instrument of ratification to the 2008 Convention on Cluster Munitions with the United Nations in New York, becoming the 46th signatory to ratify. Lebanon’s ratification is particularly significant as the 2006 conflict between Hezbollah and Israel saw heavy use of cluster munitions in South Lebanon, causing civilian casualties that continue to this day and providing one of the catalysts for the diplomatic Oslo Process effort that resulted in the creation of the Convention on Cluster Munitions. RangiStudents at Rangitoto College in Auckland have raised NZ$4,000 (USD $3,046) for victims of cluster munitions, landmines, and other explosive remnants of war.  The donation will be handed over next week to a victim assistance organisation in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Laos) by the Aotearoa New Zealand Cluster Munition Coalition (ANZCMC). CambThe Aotearoa New Zealand Cluster Munition Coalition (ANZCMC) is concerned that Cambodia is failing to ban cluster bombs and join the 2008 Convention on Cluster Munitions.  Cambodia remains affected by unexploded cluster bombs left over from the Vietnam War and, according to Cluster Munition Monitor 2010, suffered at least ten casualties from unexploded cluster bomblets in 2009.
