Survivors_OsloThe international treaty banning cluster bombs has now passed the half-way milestone to the 30 ratifications needed for it to become binding international law. Yesterday, the United Nations confirmed that Croatia become the fifteenth country to ratify the Convention on Cluster Munitions on 17 August. New Zealand has signed the Convention, but not yet ratified as legislation to implement the Convention must first be enacted. Read more

Parliament_LROn 30 July, a call for public submissions on the Cluster Munitions (Prohibition) Bill, was issued with a submission deadline of 10 September 2009. The Bill, which will govern New Zealand’s implementation of the 2008 Convention on Cluster Munitions, was introduced on 21 July 2009 and read for the first time on 28 July. Read more
