Conference Coordinator

Jamila Homayun this week started work here in Oxfam NZ’s Wellington office as Coordinator for the Wellington Conference on Cluster Munitions (to be held 18-22 Feb. 2008).
This is a short-term position to provide logistic and other support to the global civil society participants expected to attend this conference.
Jamila is a New Zealander, but returned two months ago from her first visit to northern Afghanistan where her father’s family comes from. She has worked in the refugee sector for a number of years including in the Department of Labour, RMS, and Changemakers, and holds a Masters Degree in Forced Migration, Asylum and Refugee studies. She has experience in events including organising NZAID’s 2003 “Sustainable Livelihoods” conference. In 2002-2003, Jamila was an Associate in the Arms Division of Human Rights Watch where she supported HRW’s bomb damage assessment research into US air strikes on Afghanistan and Iraq (including cluster munition use).
Jamila holds an honours degree in International Relations from Victoria University of Wellington. Jamila can be contacted by jamila[AT]oxfam.org.nz
